The 36th America’s Cup will take place in Auckland , New Zeeland, from March 10th. Founded in 1851 by the British, the America’s Cup is the world oldest sport competition. For reference, the modern Olympic Games were launched in 1896 – 45 years later. This legendary trophy was baptized America’s Cup, to honor the schooner America, which won the first race organized around the island of Wight on August 22nd 1851. Since then, only the USA, Australia, New Zeeland and Switzerland won the famous trophy.

The America’s Cup is always organized by the last winning country, which is called the « Defender ». Winner of the 35th America’s Cup, the New Zeeland team will defend its title this year and will organize this prestigious regatta.
Currently the Prada Cup is taking place. Formerly named the Louis Vuitton Cup, this series of races allows the different crews to gauge each other. The winner of this preliminary regatta will be the Challenger and will compete against the Cup’s Defender during the final match from March 6th to 18th. Who will be the next Defender?
